It became evident for the people who hid Jews that children were much easier to hide than adults. Children weren't required to carry any form of identification and could easily blend in with groups of non-Jewish kids who had been orphaned from the war.
Usually, children were hidden far from their original homes, in convents, boarding schools, and orphanages. Most children hid with strangers, and it became a concern to the hidden children they would never see their families again. The children had to change their names, temporarily convert to Christianity, and could not speak of their Jewish families to anyone.
